Hello everyone, my name is Andrea! Just to give you guys some background information on me, I am plus-sized and I have been for the majority of my life. I come from divorced parents who definitely had different takes on my career path once I was graduating high school. I found the love of my life because I had taken the leap to go into a college horse program. I got married at age 21, which seems crazy to even say out loud! And I am the proud “parent” of two horses, two cats, and an energetic dog! I have loved animals ever since I was child. It wasn’t until high school where I started to pinpoint what I really wanted to do with my life.
I had only been on a horse a handful of times prior to college and most of my rides consisted of trail rides on vacation. I remember my career choices coming down to skipping college and working towards a management position at a retail store I was working part-time at, or following my dreams of working in the equine industry. I’m not really sure what “sparked” the drive for me to find a way into the horse industry, but I am so glad I took that leap!
In high school, I had taken some guided classes where I researched different job titles, salaries, etc. It was during one of these classes when I just so happened to come across the job title of “Equine Massage Therapist”. After some research, that is what I originally had set out to become.
I later received my A.A.S. Degree in Horse Science Technology through a community college in my state. This basically set me up to go wherever I wanted to in the industry! Long story short, I ended up becoming a Barn Manager at an English riding barn. Was it the job that I had originally wanted? Absolutely not! But I am a firm believer in “everything happens for a reason” and I am so glad that I went with my gut when taking the next steps once I graduated college!
I’ve already got the gears grinding in my head about what upcoming blogs I want to write! I am hoping to provide some content for those who also share a passion for their beloved equine friends as well as share some stories and experiences that I’ve had along the way! I’m looking forward to contributing my blogs to this wonderful community!
